Identity Theft

Identity Theft is when people can steal your identity through information about yourself. This can include bank statements, letters, phone numbers and even junk mail.


A person who is a victim of ID theft can have money taken out of there current bank account, loans taken out on their names and items ordered through credit cards they could have even made in your name.

To avoid this always discard of letters properly, never answer an email that asks you about your bank details and always be caustious when applying for things online.

Cyber Bullying

Cyberbullying is similar to physical bullying with the difference being that Internet services are used to carry out the attacks.

To prevent cyberbullying
you could not do it youreself
change user id of nickname
Report it to the people who run the website or if its really serious to the police
Save any text messages or emails you receive
don't reply to anyone who is trying to bully you as it can make it worse

Gromming

Gromming is when people in chat rooms look for vunerable young people to influence into meeting up and taking adavantage of them.

To prevent this from happening parents could have the computer in the living so that they can check on what the child is upto.

They could also have a talk with children to let them know about the dangers of the the internet and chat rooms like giving out personal information and to always be cautious when involving the inernet.

If the child is confident about meetin up with a person they have spoken to over the inernet they could take a friend with them or let there parents know where exactly they are going to.

Rougue diallers Rogue Diallers are pieces of software secretly placed on your computer by some of the nastier people who use the internet.
When you connect to the internet, these diallers quietly disconnect you and dial a premium-rate phone number instead.
So when you think you are connected to the internet as usual, you are in fact running up mammoth telephone bills on your account.

Keyloggers

keylogging is a method of capturing and recording user keystrokes. Keylogging can be useful to determine sources of errors in computer systems, to study how users interact with systems, and is sometimes used to measure employee productivity on certain clerical tasks.

Adware

Adware software is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertising material to a computer after the software is installed on it or while the application is being used. Some types of adware are also spyware and can be classified as privacy-invasive software.

Spyware

Spyware is computer software that is installed surreptitiously on a personal computer to intercept or take partial control over the user's interaction with the computer, without the user's informed consent.

Malware

Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a portmanteau of the words "malicious" and "software". The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.

Viruses

File infector viruses infect program files such as games and applications. The Jerusalem virus runs in ms-dos which was first detected in October 1987. The actual virus becomes memory resident taking 2 kb of memory. the virus deletes every program file that was executed.

Boot sector viruses attach themselves to this program and execute when the computer tries to start up from an infected disk. The Michelangelo virus was first discovered in 1991 in New Zealand. It infects Ms-dos systems and remains dormant until March 6 the birthday of the artist Michelangelo.

Multi-partite or polypeptide viruses: these infect both boot records and program files and are very difficult to repair as the virus code must be removed from both locations. The tequila virus was designed by two brothers in Switzerland, the virus will infect the motherboard so the next time the computer is booted the virus will be active in the memory.

Macro viruses: these infect data files, such as Word documents or Excel spreadsheets, rather than programs. They are very common and can be difficult and expensive to repair. One of the Marco viruses is the wm.consept
When your computer is infected it will come up with a message saying your files will be deleted in 24hours have a nice day you fool!
