comparing different spam filters
SpamShield is a simple to use anti-spam software. From the installation right down to the customization of the features, Spam Shield is a good, strong product. The download, installation instructions and anti-spam software interface were very intuitive, which isn’t always the case. One really nice feature is that Spam Shield anti-spam software actually updates "spam definitions" similar to virus definitions and anti-virus software. So not only does Spam Shield allow you to customize, (point and click) what is spam but it also gives "definitions" so it helps you along the way.
SPAMfighter, there were plenty of things we liked. First of all, we enjoyed the real-time spam statistic function, which let us monitor what was going on in Microsoft Outlook.
There are also white and blacklist capabilities, so in the event that an important email or contact gets marked as 'spam,' you can change the settings so it won't occur again.
CA Anti-Spam software provides spam protection for multiple POP3 email accounts that are configured in Outlook as well as all Microsoft Exchange accounts. Its symbiotic relationship with Microsoft Outlook/Exchange provides optimal performance, with prompt access to all toolbar features. One of the best features we found during our review is that CA Anti-Spam software allows you to move your list of recognizable senders from on computer to another.
I would use CA anti-spam as its easiest to use and less complicated.

The two leading anti-virus software - Symantec (Norton) and McAfee - have for several years been adding value to their basic product by bundling it in suites with related security software. McAfee's latest offering in this field is Internet Security Suite, which works in four specific areas: anti-virus, firewall, privacy and anti-spam. I would use Norton as it’s the easier one to use.

ZoneAlarm Pro 7.0 the features of this are Firewall, popup ad blocker, identity theft protection, e-mail screening, spy site blocking, privacy protection, game mode. Can automatically configure firewall to allow popular programs to access the Internet. Leak test protection. Bundled anti-spyware application. I would not use this as it doesn’t run under windows vista.

a backdoor is a way of accessing a computer wothout going through the normal access, It can be onstalled by a virus or sometime even by legitimate programs. a rootkit can be used to open a backdoor allowing hackers into a system. An example of a virus that installs a backdoor in the mydoom worm it was created to send junk mail from infected computers.
